It was a brilliant day for me after a very disappointing performance last year where I didn't even make the final (either A or B) but this year I made the A final!!!!!. I have to say thanks to Mum and Dad who got the engine for me, which went really well.
It seems that I surprised a couple of people with my performance on the track. Lots of people kept saying to me that I should have a BZ carb but where can I find the £500 for it!!!!!!! - because they believe that I will go better and get more power out off it. Anyway I'd like also to thank all the people who kept saying to me on the day keep it up.
In the first race I came 3rd with a fairly good start but luckily I got some grip on the outside to keep it up. In the next race I won which I'm really pleased with after a very good start. In the 3rd race I came 3rd again from a difficult place where I was on the outside but I made I good start (about 2nd off the line) and kept going wider just to sort of keep away from the riders in front but I went a bit too wide and I picked up so much drive and it kind of put me out really wide coming out of the corner but I did not mess it up too badly.
I came 4th overall after the heats to get in the A final. I chose the outside gate because I hadn't really been on the inside gates at all so I thought I'd rather pick the outside gate. I didn't really make the start because I think that I didn't give the engine enough revs so I was kind of last into the first corner but again went too wide and the track got really dusty and I couldn't really see what I was doing so I decided to not risk myself until the dust cleared away a bit. I got back in action but I was quite a long way behind, so I had a lot of work to do. I managed to keep in tight all the time to stay away from the dust and managed to pass one rider in one lap the then the next rider on the next lap and slowly catch up with the others in the last lap but I had a strange problem into the last corner. I nearly went over the front of the bike and I couldn't get back on the bike properly because it was going down the hill and until I got to the bottom I must have scared the other rider who was on the outside but he passed me at the bottom and before I got the bike together and put the power back on to go back up the hill to the finish line the other rider passed me on the inside and I finished last. It was a bit unlucky but at least I tried. Someone said to me that they thought it was my forks that went wrong. When I shut the throttle off they believe that the forks went all the way down which acted like a sort of brake and the back wheel turned - that may be the reason it went wrong. It could be the damper gone or the rubber has got weak.
So I came 7th overall, but I'm pleased because I have never ridden that hard against top riders.
